SCM Profiset 60 EP – Four-sided planer and automatic profiling machine
The SCM Profiset 60 EP is an automatic four-sided planer and profiling machine designed for the dimensionally accurate machining of timber in joinery workshops and timber-processing businesses. It combines four-sided planing with the production of profiles, for example for mouldings and components used in interior fit-outs.
The machine processes workpieces up to 230 mm in finished width and 120 mm in finished height. The feed rate can be adjusted continuously from 5 to 25 m/min. The ‘Easy Plus’ electronic control system assists with setting up different workpiece cross-sections and tool configurations.
Operation and construction
The Profiset 60 EP is available in versions with four or five spindles. The fifth spindle is a second lower horizontal spindle. Both versions can be supplemented with a universal spindle. The vertical spindles allow for a profile depth of up to 40 mm and have an axial adjustment range of 40 mm.
The ‘Easy Plus’ control system on the operator console automatically positions the left-hand vertical spindle and the upper horizontal spindle, and allows the feed rate to be selected. A 7-inch colour LCD screen in 16:9 format, as well as tool and programme databases with graphical displays, assist with operation.
The feed system comprises a feed gearbox with a cardan shaft, pneumatically pressed feed rollers and speed control via an inverter. The feed roller in front of the lower horizontal spindle, with pneumatic remote adjustment, is part of the standard specification. The ‘set-up’ system uses the minimum diameter of the tool as a reference for adjusting the tool, working height and pressure elements.
The working units are adjusted from the front of the machine; mechanical digital displays show the position. The infeed table and right-hand guide are adjustable via a parallelogram system. A manual lubricant pump is used to lubricate the table, whilst a non-driven idler roller in the outfeed table assists with workpiece transport.

The technical table specifies the minimum finished width as 25 mm and 15 mm respectively. The minimum individual workpiece length is specified as 450 and 430 mm respectively for the four-spindle version, and 630 and 420 mm respectively for the five-spindle version. The conditions for these different minimum values are not clearly specified and must be checked for the specific version.
The feed table length is specified as 2,000 or 2,500 mm. Depending on the configuration, the motor power ratings are 4–5.5 kW on the lower horizontal spindle, 5.5–11 kW for the shared drive of the vertical spindles and 4–7.5 kW on the upper horizontal spindle. The power ratings refer to S6 duty cycle. Depending on the spindle configuration, table length and universal spindle, the machine length is 3,410–4,815 mm. The width is 1,574 mm without the universal spindle and 1,659 mm with the universal spindle.
Applications
The SCM Profiset 60 EP is suitable for businesses wishing to combine four-sided planing and profiling with electronically assisted set-up. The specific machining capabilities depend on the spindle configuration, tools and optional extras. The EP version can be distinguished from the Profiset 60 by its ‘Easy Plus’ control system; the smaller Profiset 40 and 40 EP models have different performance and dimensional specifications.
